Uruguay paints in yellow

May was the month chosen since its themonth in which the United Nations (UN) launched the Decade of Action for Road Safety and requested its member countries a commitment to face 2020 in order to reduce road accidents.

Mayo Amarillo is a call to action for public and private organizations to work together with a multidisciplinary approach to prevent road crashes.

This is the first year that Uruguay commemorates Mayo Amarillo. The initiative was proposed by Dr. Fernando Machado, Director of the Emergency Department of the Hospital de Clinicas, who brought the idea from Brazil, and more than thirty institutions joined the proposal.

Mayo Amarillo symbol is a yellow ribbon that will be displayed in buildings, companies and public entities which adhere to the movement. During May and to raises awareness Palacio Legislativo (Uruguay'sParlament) will remain lit in yellow from today and throughout the month of May.

Fundación Gonzalo Rodriguez adheres to the movement Mayo Amarillo with the guidelines locally promoted by theNational Road Safety Unit (UNASEV), developing activities that promotes road safety good practices for children and adults.

For the Foundation this is movement of relevance that allows to focus on activities that generate road safety awareness, and how good practices carried out by the different sectors involved, as well as road users, can contribute to reduce injuries and deaths as a result of road crahses.

During May the Foundation will carryout a check up event with Banco de Seguros to advise its employees on proper installation of child restraint systems - safety-chairs; in addition to this the Foundation will have a presentation at Children's Fair Book, which will be held in the Municipality of Montevideo.
