With the support of UNASEV and the National Directorate of Roadside Police, we held the regional seminar "Control Effectiveness as an Agent of Change", which was attended by agents from different countries.
The meeting was aimed at exchanging good practices in control at the road level in countries such as Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Uruguay, in addition to the experience of Spain in the implementation of technology applied to control.
Among the exhibitors were the National Director of the Highway Police, Crio Mayor Mauricio Tort; Ramón Ledesma Muñoz, Advisor to PONS on Road Safety; the Director of Traffic and Transport of the National Police of Colombia; the General Director of Prevention of Traffic Accidents of the province of Córdoba-Argentina and the General of Traffic Zone, Roads and Road Safety of the Carabineros of Chile. The event was closed by David Cliff, executive head of the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP)
"As an organization, we are very concerned about the enforcement on the national roads and we need the unity of the authorities of all the departments. In the coming summer season, we will notice an increase in the mobility of Uruguayans within our country and that is why we thought it was important to organize this meeting," said María Fernanda Rodríguez, president of the Gonzalo Rodríguez Foundation.
"According to official figures, in 2019, 6 out of every 10 people who died took part in accidents outside the cities. For this reason, and because Uruguay has committed to meet the goals set by the United Nations for the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety, which aims to reduce deaths and injuries caused by traffic accidents by at least 50% from 2021 to 2030, we need the country to move forward with a more efficient control policy at the national level," said Rodriguez.
This instance is part of the activities promoted by the organization to train the agents of change, with the aim of raising awareness among national authorities about the problem of traffic accidents.
